Summer photography, at the right hours
In July and August a full photography day in the Danube Delta makes no sense. The good light lasts only a few hours after sunrise and before sunset. This trip uses exactly those hours, and nothing else.
From mid morning the summer light turns hard and flat, the heat is strong and, from about 9:30, hundreds of speed boats race through the main channels. The wildlife hides and the water churns. Before that, and after it is over, the Danube Delta is quiet again: soft light, still water and birds feeding in the open.
The departure is from Tulcea, so not a minute of good light is lost on a transfer. Your guide, a professional wildlife photographer and naturalist, chooses the channels and lakes for the light, the season and the latest sightings, and positions the boat for the light, the background and the angle. Pelicans, herons, egrets, cormorants and grebes are the usual subjects, and with some luck a white tailed eagle, an otter or a golden jackal.
The bird comes first, always. We never drive at a bird to make it fly, never enter nesting areas and never push for a shot that stresses an animal. If that means we lose a picture, we lose the picture.

4 hours From Tulcea, in the best light
- Start Meeting with your guide at Port Tulcea Aval, at sunrise or in the late afternoon, at an hour agreed with you.
- On the water Photography in the side channels and lakes near Tulcea, away from the main river, with stops and positioning whenever the subject and the light are right.
- End Back in Tulcea, about 4 hours after you set off.
The exact channels depend on the light, the water level, the weather and where the wildlife is, so your guide picks the route on the day.

Private summer photo trip
2027 price and booking
Any day from 1 July to 31 August 2027, at sunrise or in the evening. The price is for the whole boat, in euro, VAT included: €450 for 1 to 4 guests and €500 for 5 to 8 guests. For a larger group we use more boats; write to us for the price.

Choose a date and the number of guests, children included, and click Request this date. In the booking request form, tell us if you prefer the sunrise or the evening session, your target species and your equipment, and we will get back to you to confirm and to send you the next steps.

How to book
- Send a booking request. Choose your date and the number of guests and fill in the form. We usually answer in less than 24 hours. Please check your spam folder too.
- We confirm and send you the payment link.
- Your booking is confirmed when you pay the 50% deposit, online, through the payment link. Until then, no places are held for you.
- Pay the balance at boarding, in cash or by card (RON or EUR).
A request is not a booking. Please pay within 3 days of our email. If we do not receive the 50% deposit by then, the request expires and the places go to other guests. If you decide later, write to us first to check that there is still room. Do not pay an old payment link without asking us: if the places are taken, we can only refund you.
Bookings are taken only through the form or by email. The phone is for information only.
Cancellation policy
- More than 90 days before the trip, you can postpone it. You receive a voucher valid for 2 years.
- Less than 90 days before the trip, the deposit is not refundable and cannot be moved to another program.
Children
- The price is per boat, so children do not change it.
- Every child, of any age, counts as one guest.
- Parents are fully responsible for supervising their children during the trip.
Our boats
Open boats, the complete experience
Our boats are open. You see, hear and smell the Danube Delta all around you: the water, the reeds, the birds, the wind. Nothing stands between you and your subject.
- No roof. The boat is not covered when it rains. Protect your camera.
- No shade. Even at these hours the summer sun can be strong.
- No heating. Early mornings and evenings on the water can be cool, even in July.
We offer you a fabulous experience. Your part is to come prepared.

Bring with you
Four hours in the best light pass quickly. Have your camera ready from the first minute, and dress for the cool hours on the water.

- A telephoto lens of at least 300 mm, a teleconverter if you have one
- A shorter lens for landscapes

Distance from nests
We never enter nesting or breeding areas, and we keep our distance from bird nests along the shoreline. No picture is worth disturbing a bird.

Frequently asked questions
Sunrise or evening: which is better for photography?
Both work well. At sunrise the wildlife is most active and you often get mist on the water. In the evening the light is warmer and flocks fly to their roosts, good for birds in flight. If you stay a few days, you can book both.
Why only 4 hours?
Because in July and August the good light lasts only a few hours. From mid morning the light is hard and flat, the heat is strong and the main channels are full of speed boats. A longer trip would add hours, not photographs.
Is the price per person or per boat?
Per boat: €450 for 1 to 4 guests, €500 for 5 to 8 guests, children included.
What can we photograph?
Usually pelicans, herons, egrets, great and pygmy cormorants and grebes, and with some luck a white tailed eagle, an otter or a golden jackal. See our list of the birds of the Danube Delta and Dobrogea. Wildlife is wild, so no sighting can be promised.
What lens do I need?
At least 300 mm for birds, longer if you have it, plus a shorter lens for landscapes. With modest equipment you can still come home with beautiful images.
Do we wear life jackets?
Yes. A life jacket is provided for everyone and must be worn during the whole boat trip.
How many people can join?
A maximum of 8 guests per boat, children included. The boat has 8 seats, and for photography everyone needs room to move and shoot. For a larger group we use more boats; write to us for the price.
