Do not search for us on your own. Use the GPS.
Every season some guests end up on the town promenade, at the public harbour or at the commercial port on the other side of Tulcea, because they looked for “the port” on their own. Tulcea has several ports, and only one is ours. The GPS on your phone is free and it brings you right to the barrier of Port Tulcea Aval. NOT the public harbour
We do not leave from the public passenger harbour in the town centre, where the ferries and the speed boats wait for tourists.
NOT the promenade
We are not on the waterfront promenade of Tulcea, and not at the commercial port. Nobody there knows us, and nobody there can take you to our boat.
Inside Port Tulcea Aval
Intrarea Marmurei 3, Tulcea. Through the barrier, straight ahead to the passenger pontoon on the Danube. That is all.

From the street to the boat, in 7 photos
This is exactly what you see on the way. The GPS does the hard part; these photos make sure you recognise the place when you get there.
Step 1
Turn left at the painted fence
On Strada Gradinarilor, look for PORT TULCEA-AVAL painted on the concrete fence, with an arrow. Turn left there.
Step 2
Drive up to the barriers
A short road takes you to the port entrance. In the middle you see a white sign: PORT TULCEA AVAL.
Step 3
Through the barrier
The gate on the left, the barrier on the right. The barrier opens for one car at a time, so make sure nobody follows you through.
Step 4
Straight ahead
Keep going straight through the car park, about 200 m, with the long grey hall on your right. Do not turn, and do not stop at the first buildings.
Step 5
Willows mean water
At the end of the car park you see a row of willows. Willows grow on the riverbank: the Danube and the pontoon are right behind them. Park here.
Step 6
The passenger pontoon
Between the willows, a ramp goes down to the floating pontoon, signed DEBARCADER PASAGERI. You only see the sign when you are close. Walk down the ramp.
Step 7: our door
On the pontoon, look for the SOUVENIR Shop sign and our banner with a pelican, DescoperaDeltaDunarii.ro, 0763 869 400. That is us.
Come in and tell our colleague your name, so we know you are there and ready for boarding.
If you see this pontoon, you are in the right place. Be there at the meeting hour shown on your tour page. The boat does not wait at the public harbour for anyone.
Coming from Bucharest
How to get to Tulcea
Flying into Bucharest? Tulcea is about 300 km away. Our private transfer takes you straight from Bucharest airport or your address in Bucharest to Tulcea; book it together with your tour. Coming by car
Parking at the port
Inside the port there is a guarded car park. It costs 40 lei per car per day (about €8). On a tour of several days you pay for every day your car stays there.
You pay when you leave, at the parking machine, in cash or by card. Follow the sign PUNCTE DE PLATA PARCARE / PARCOMAT inside the port (you can see it in Step 4).
The car park does not belong to us. The fee is set by the port management and can change without notice to us. The parking fee is not included in the price of your trip or tour.

Getting to the boat
What do I type in my GPS?
Nothing. Tap “Take me there with Google Maps” on this page and the route opens on your phone. If you prefer to type: Port Tulcea Aval, or the address Intrarea Marmurei 3, Tulcea, or the coordinates 45.187893, 28.807539.
I am coming by taxi. What do I tell the driver?
Say “Port Tulcea Aval, Intrarea Marmurei 3” and ask to be left at the barrier, or show the driver this page. Do not say only “the port”: the driver will most likely take you to the public harbour in the centre.
I cannot find the souvenir shop.
The shop is on the passenger pontoon itself, not in a building in the car park. Walk down the ramp onto the pontoon and look for the SOUVENIR Shop sign and our banner with the pelican (Step 7 above).
Is the parking included in the tour price?
No. You pay 40 lei per car per day (about €8) directly to the port, when you leave, at the parking machine, in cash or by card.
