In July and August the Danube Delta has two faces. At midday it is hot, loud and crowded. At sunrise and in the evening it is cool, quiet and wild. This trip only runs at those hours, because that is when the Danube Delta is worth seeing.
From about 9:30, hundreds of speed boats race through the main channels, full of tourists ticking off a box, with loud engines and sometimes louder music. The wildlife hides, the water churns, and the magic is gone. We call it the speed boat terror, and we keep our guests well away from it. Before it starts, and after it is over, the Danube Delta is a different world.
The departure is from Tulcea, so there is no transfer and no long journey to reach the wilderness. Your boat follows the Sontea channel and the quiet waterways around it, through reed beds, willow forests and backwaters, where pelicans, herons, egrets and cormorants feed in the soft light. With some luck you may see a white tailed eagle, an otter or a golden jackal along the banks.
The perfect hours, in the middle of the wild. The boat and the guide are only yours. You travel at low to medium speed in our open boat, built for the Danube Delta, and your naturalist guide explains what you see: how the animals live, why they gather where they do, and how the whole system works.

Why not midday?
Because in summer the midday hours are the worst of the Danube Delta: strong sun, no shade, and the channels full of speed boats. We would rather not take you there at all.

Itinerary
4 hours Tulcea, the Sontea channel and back
- Start Meeting with your guide at Port Tulcea Aval, at sunrise or in the late afternoon, at an hour agreed with you.
- First hour Off the main river and into the side channels, towards the Sontea channel.
- Middle The wild part: reed beds, willow forests and backwaters, with stops whenever there is something to watch.
- End Back in Tulcea, about 4 hours after you set off.
The exact channels depend on the water level, the weather and where the wildlife is, so your guide picks the route on the day.

2027 price and booking
Any day from 1 July to 31 August 2027, at sunrise or in the evening. The price is for the whole boat, in euro, VAT included: €400 for 1 to 5 guests and €450 for 6 to 10 guests. For a larger group we use more boats; write to us for the price.

Choose a date and the number of guests, children included, and click Request this date. In the booking request form, tell us if you prefer the morning or the evening trip, and we will get back to you to confirm and to send you the next steps.

How to book
- Send a booking request. Choose your date and the number of guests and fill in the form. We usually answer in less than 24 hours. Please check your spam folder too.
- We confirm and send you the payment link.
- Your booking is confirmed when you pay the 50% deposit, online, through the payment link. Until then, no places are held for you.
- Pay the balance at boarding, in cash or by card (RON or EUR).
A request is not a booking. Please pay within 3 days of our email. If we do not receive the 50% deposit by then, the request expires and the places go to other guests. If you decide later, write to us first to check that there is still room. Do not pay an old payment link without asking us: if the places are taken, we can only refund you.
Bookings are taken only through the form or by email. The phone is for information only.
Cancellation policy
- More than 90 days before the trip, you can postpone it. You receive a voucher valid for 2 years.
- Less than 90 days before the trip, the deposit is not refundable and cannot be moved to another program.
Children
- The price is per boat, so children do not change it.
- Every child, of any age, counts as one guest.
- Parents are fully responsible for supervising their children during the trip.

Open boats, the complete experience
Our boats are open. You see, hear and smell the Danube Delta all around you: the water, the reeds, the birds, the wind. Nothing stands between you and the landscape, and that is what makes it a complete experience.
- No roof. The boat is not covered when it rains.
- No shade. Even at these hours the summer sun can be strong.
- No heating. Early mornings and evenings on the water can be cool, even in July.

Frequently asked questions
Morning or evening: which is better?
Both are beautiful. The morning is cooler, the wildlife is at its most active and you have the rest of the day free. The evening has the warmest light and the quiet of the end of the day. Choose the one that suits your plans.
Can we go at midday?
No. In July and August we do not run this trip at midday. It is too hot in an open boat, and from about 9:30 the main channels are full of speed boats. The magic of the Danube Delta is at sunrise and in the evening.
Why only in July and August?
This short format is made for the summer, when the midday hours are best avoided. In the rest of the season you have more time on the water: see our private day trip to Mila 23.
Is the price per person or per boat?
Per boat: €400 for 1 to 5 guests, €450 for 6 to 10 guests, children included.
What wildlife can we see?
Often pelicans, herons, egrets and cormorants, and with some luck a white tailed eagle, an otter or a golden jackal. Wildlife is wild, so no sighting can be promised.
Do we wear life jackets?
Yes. A life jacket is provided for everyone and must be worn during the whole boat trip.
