The day in short
From Tulcea to the Black Sea in one day
Sulina is the last town on the Danube before the river flows into the Black Sea, and the easternmost town in Romania. A century ago it was a busy, cosmopolitan port, home to the European Danube Commission, to sailors and merchants from all over Europe. Today you can still see a little of the charm and grandeur of those days. This private day trip takes you there the slow way, through the wild heart of the Danube Delta.
The best part of the day is the journey out. Soon after Tulcea your boat leaves the main river for small channels and quiet lakes. You stop for a coffee in Mila 23, the fishing village in the middle of the Danube Delta, then follow the winding Old Danube past Crișan before joining the Sulina channel for the last stretch to the sea.
In Sulina you have free time until the late afternoon. Walk along the waterfront, visit the old lighthouse of the European Danube Commission, wander through the old cemetery where sailors of many nations rest, or go to the beach for a swim in the Black Sea. Then the boat brings you back to Tulcea along the Sulina channel, the most direct way.
Know what to expect. Sulina is a town with a rich past, not a nature reserve. The return along the Sulina channel is a wide, straight waterway used by ships and speed boats. If your main wish is wildlife and wild landscapes, our private day trip to Letea is the better choice. If you want to say you crossed the Danube Delta all the way to the Black Sea, this is your day.
You travel in our open boat, built for the Danube Delta, with a naturalist guide who explains what you see along the way.

Our commitment to conservation
Nature comes first
Our tours are designed to keep our impact low and to protect the delicate ecosystem of the Danube Delta. By choosing this trip you support a slower, more careful way of exploring it.
Lower power engines
Our boats run on engines with less power than they would normally carry. That means less disturbance in the water, less fuel and lower emissions.
A slow, steady pace
Moving slowly protects the aquatic vegetation that fish need for breeding, prevents erosion of the banks and reduces stress on migratory and resident birds.
Distance from nests
We never enter nesting or breeding areas, and we keep our distance from bird nests along the shoreline.
