Before you book only a room
In the Danube Delta, the room is the easy part
Many visitors start by searching for accommodation in the Danube Delta and plan to sort out the rest on the spot. They find a room. Then they find out how the Danube Delta really works.
Everything is by boat
Mila 23 and most villages of the Danube Delta have no road. You arrive by boat, and every lake, channel and forest is reached by boat. Arranging good boats on the spot, day after day, is much harder than it looks from home.
A guide is almost impossible to find
In a village, on the day, a guide who speaks good English and can name even a few birds is very hard to find. A specialised birding guide or a wildlife photographer guide, never.
So most end up on a speed boat
A boatman who speaks no English, loud music and a race from one stop to the next. That is how almost all tourism in the Danube Delta works. The roof and the plastic sheeting are sold as comfort, but they are needed only because of the speed, and behind them you see almost nothing.
Our way: open boats at low speed, at the best hours of the day, with a guide who knows the places and the wildlife, and a quiet guesthouse to come back to. The room comes with the trip, not the other way around.

We choose small guesthouses of 5 to 11 rooms, owned and run by families of the village, over large hotels. The atmosphere is warmer and the service more personal.
Food cooked by your hosts
Fresh fish and local products, cooked the Lipovan way by the people who welcome you. Your stay also supports the families of the village.

Can I book only accommodation with you?
No. We book our guesthouses in Mila 23 and Nena Art Resort only as part of our tours, with everything arranged for you.
Which guesthouse should I choose?
Alexandru & Alexandra House if you want a pool and a central spot in the village. Vaida House if you travel with children. Fisherman’s House if you want the most comfort and a room with a view of the water. The tour program is the same in all three. Nena Art Resort, in Dunavatu de Jos, if you want summer days at a large pool.
How do I get to Mila 23?
There is no road to Mila 23. We transfer you by boat from Port Tulcea Aval in Tulcea, and the transfer is included in the price of your tour.
Can I choose the guesthouse when I book?
Yes. On every shared nature tour the table of dates shows the three guesthouses, their prices and the places left. Choose the row with your date and your guesthouse, and send the booking request.
Do I need to bring towels?
No. All three guesthouses in Mila 23 give you towels, soap and shampoo.
