Three days on the water, at the pace of the Danube Delta
This is our classic introduction to the Danube Delta: two nights in Mila 23, a fishing village with no road leading to it, and three guided boat trips that show you the lakes, the narrow channels and the forest of Letea at three very different hours of the day.
We transfer you by boat from Tulcea on the first afternoon and, about an hour later, the town is far behind you. That same evening you are already out on the lakes with our guide, in the soft light before dinner. The second day begins before sunrise, when the water is still and the birds are feeding intensively. After breakfast comes the long trip north to Letea: a boat route through wild country near Roșca Buhaiova, the largest colony of Great White Pelicans in Europe, then a safari car to the old forest of Letea, where wild horses roam among the trees.
Everything is done slowly. We use our own open boats, built for watching and photographing wildlife, not speed boats. Our guides take the time to explain what you are looking at: the birds, the plants and the way people live in the middle of the Danube Delta.

Day trip to Letea
Two to two and a half hours by boat through lakes and channels, then a safari car to Letea Forest and a short walk where you may meet the wild horses.

Day 1 Tulcea to Mila 23 and an evening on the lakes
- 14:30 Meeting and boarding at Port Tulcea Aval.
- 15:00 Departure to Mila 23. The boat transfer is run by a local company and takes about one hour.
- On arrival Check in at your guesthouse.
- Evening Boat trip on the lakes with our guide, in our open boats.
- Dinner Traditional dinner cooked by your hosts.

Day 2 Sunrise on the water and the day trip to Letea
- Before sunrise Sunrise boat trip. The departure is 30 minutes before sunrise, to see the Danube Delta as it wakes up, in golden light, while the birds are feeding intensively.
- 8:30 Breakfast at the guesthouse.
- 9:30 Departure to Letea by boat. A journey of 2 to 2.5 hours through wild, spectacular landscapes near the Roșca Buhaiova pelican colony.
- 12:30 Letea Forest safari. From Letea village a safari car takes you 7 km to the forest. You then walk for 20 to 30 minutes on an approved route through the old forest, with its unique vegetation and, with some luck, wild horses.
- 14:30 Optional lunch in a traditional household (not included in the price).
- Afternoon Return to Mila 23 through lakes and channels.
- Evening Dinner and time to relax at the guesthouse.
About the optional lunch in Letea. A traditional fish menu served in a family home: fish soup, baked fish with potatoes and Letea donuts for dessert. It costs 100 to 150 RON (€20 to €30) per person, paid in cash. This is not a restaurant, so no other dishes are available.

Day 3 Breakfast and the boat back to Tulcea
- 8:30 Breakfast at the guesthouse.
- 9:30 Transfer to Tulcea by boat, with stops at scenic points along the way.
- 11:30 Arrival in Tulcea. End of the tour.
If you continue by public transport, please plan your departure from Tulcea after 12:00.

How to book
- Send a booking request. Choose your start date and guesthouse in the table, add the number of guests and fill in the form. We usually answer in less than 24 hours. Please check your spam folder too.
- We confirm and send you the payment link.
- Your booking is confirmed when you pay the 20% deposit, online, through the payment link. Until then, no places are held for you.
- Pay the balance at boarding, in cash or by card (RON or EUR).
A request is not a booking. Please pay within 3 days of our email. If we do not receive the 20% deposit by then, the request expires and the places go to other guests. If you decide later, write to us first to check that there is still room. Do not pay an old payment link without asking us: if the places are taken, we can only refund you.
Bookings are taken only through the form or by email. The phone is for information only.
Cancellation policy
- More than 90 days before the tour, you can postpone your trip. You receive a voucher valid for 2 years.
- Less than 90 days before the tour, the deposit is not refundable.
Children
- The minimum age for this tour is 5 years.
- Children aged 5 to 12 pay 50% of the price.
- Children over 12 pay the adult price.
- Parents are fully responsible for supervising their children during the tour.

This is a shared tour
You travel with other guests. The whole group goes on the same boat and the same safari car, at the hours shown in the itinerary. Please be on board on time for every departure.
Open boats, relaxed pace
We use open boats, not speed boats, designed for wildlife observation and photography. All trips run at a relaxed pace, so you have time to look.
Travelling with children
The trips are long. The day to Letea lasts all day, by boat, by safari car and on foot. It can be too much for a small child, especially in summer, when it is hot.

Lower power engines
Our boats run on engines with less power than they would normally carry. That means less disturbance in the water, less fuel and lower emissions.
A slow, steady pace
Moving slowly protects the aquatic vegetation that fish need for breeding, prevents erosion of the banks and reduces stress on migratory and resident birds.
Distance from nests
We never enter nesting or breeding areas, and we keep our distance from bird nests along the shoreline. Birds that behave naturally are also the best ones to watch.

Frequently asked questions
Is lunch included?
No. The tour is half board, with breakfast and dinner at the guesthouse. On the day trip to Letea you can have the optional lunch in a traditional household, for 100 to 150 RON (€20 to €30) per person, paid in cash.
When should I arrive in Tulcea, and when can I leave?
Boarding is at 14:30 on the first day, at Port Tulcea Aval, and the boat leaves at 15:00. On the third day you are back in Tulcea at 11:30. If you travel on by public transport, plan your departure after 12:00.
How early does the sunrise trip start?
The departure is 30 minutes before sunrise, so the hour changes through the season. Around midsummer that means leaving at about 4:45 in the morning, and in mid September at about 6:10.
What will we see?
That depends on the season, and each area of the Danube Delta has something of its own. On every trip our guides explain the places you travel through, the birds and the plants. Wildlife is wild, so no sighting can be promised, including the wild horses of Letea.
Can I have a room to myself?
Yes. Solo travellers, and anyone who prefers to be alone in the room, pay a single room supplement: €90 per room at Alexandru & Alexandra House and Vaida House, €120 per room at Fisherman’s House, for the whole tour.
